Snowshoe hiking in the Schlern area
A worthwhile snowshoe hike takes you from Compatsch to the Goldknopf on the Seiser Alm. In Seis, take the Seiser Alm cable car to Compatsch. Walk down alpine meadows to Laurin hut and continue towards Rosszähne. Crossing the Tschapit meadows you reach the highest point of the alpine pasture, the Goldknopf (2249 m). On the way back you will stop at the Mahlknecht hut, where you will have a hearty lunch.
The village of Tiers in the Schlern region is the starting point for many more snow-shoeing tours in different degrees of difficulty. Hikes to the Tschafon hut, the Wolfsgrube and the Nigerpass as well as the Haniger Schwaige are easy to cope with. On a trip through the Bärenfälle and on the Knüppelweg, experienced snowshoe hikers find a suitable challenge.
Tobogganing in Kastelruth
In the winter holiday in Kastelruth, a tobogganing section is an indispensable event. Above all, if you spend the holidays with your family, your children will be delighted to take the snowy hills down.
Very close to Kastelruth there are three toboggan runs. The 2,9 km long Mignon-Tirler toboggan run starts at the Mahlknecht hut. Also on the Seiser Alm you will find the 1,8 km long Puflatsch toboggan run above Compatsch at the mountain station of the same name. With 3 km the Zallinger-Tirler toboggan run is the longest. You can find it in the west of the Seiser Alm at the Gasthof Zallinger.
Cross-country skiing on the Seiser Alm
On a total of 80 km you will find superbly prepared, double to quadrupled groomed trails for a special winter fun. No matter which course you choose, spectacular views and unique natural experiences are guaranteed.
Beginners start on the training trail at Ritsch Schwaige and then choose an easy cross-country ski trail such as the Möser or Compatsch - Ritsch. Directly at Kastelruth you will find the 4,4 km long and easy Kastelruth ski run, which leads you through the ski area Kastelruth / Marinzen.
Experienced cross-country skiers choose the trails Panider Sattel, Saltria, Wolfsbühel or Hartl. Experts do extensive cross-country skiing on the Joch, Ritsch-Saltria cross-country ski trails or the 11.3 km-long panorama loop starting at Ritsch Schwaige.
Christmas markets in Kastelruth and South Tyrol
The alpine Christmas market in Kastelruth is well-known for the authentic atmosphere of South Tyrol. On the historic village square, local traders offer traditional crafts of wood, felt and wool as well as delicious South Tyrolean specialties, mulled wine and gingerbread. A romantic lighting as well as moody Advent music complete the Christmas market. The highlight of the supporting program every year is the Christmas concert of Kastelruther Spatzen.
